One of the questions I get A LOT is . . .
How do I stand out in a sea of people who do what I do??
The simple answer?
It’s the stories you tell.
There’s a Hopi proverb that says:
Those who tell the stories, rule the world.
And why is that?
Storytelling is powerful!
Look, in business, we can often focus on objective data, facts and figures, product features, charts, technology and engagement through social media (YAWNING YET?).
However, storytelling reaches people on an emotional level.
And emotional content will help you build a much stronger bond with your audience.
They’ll feel like they can relate to you.
Like they KNOW you.
It’s just like how we see ourselves in certain aspects of book or movie characters.
We identify and empathize with them. We feel loyalty to them.
For your business, this breaks down the barrier between you and your potential client and seriously ups the know, like and trust factor.
Your stories make you memorable.
How many times have you referenced somebody you saw online with something like, “You know, that girl who started her business in jail and was able to retire by the time she got out.”
(Do people have “sticky details” about you that they can relay to others?)
THAT is what will make you stand out.
FUN FACT: Did you know that according to neuroscientists, our brains are actually hardwired for story?
Think about when you’ve read a good book – sometimes it feels as though you’re coming out of a dream when you stop.
Or how about watching a movie and completely losing track of time?
With great stories, you can have the exact same impact on your audience.
And all of this translates to a more lively community around your blog or Facebook group, and to more loyal clients who tell everybody about you.
Pretty powerful!
That’s why starting Monday in The Entrepreneurial Fun Zone, it’s going to be Fun ‘n’ Games Week –
Meaning a 5-Day Challenge (or Experience, as I like to call them) all about:
Storytelling for Your Business
And by the way, yesterday was #FriendsDayWednesday in The Fun Zone and it’s the day everyone gets a chance to share a personal story based on a prompt . . .
This week was: Tell us about your worst date!
Not only might the stories be flippin’ hilarious, but it gives everyone a chance to create those “sticky details” for others to remember them by.
Like, “You know, the girl who threw up all over her blind date? I’m signing up for her self-care course!”
I even shared one of my less-than-awesome date experiences (And made myself cry with laughter in the process!).
Hope you’ll come hang out with us, and create your own memorable stories!
PS. Did you skim to the bottom? No worries! Just wanted to invite you to Fun ‘n’ Games (5-Day Free Experience) all about helping you create powerful stories with “sticky details” for your business.
We’re starting soon and all the merriment happens inside The Fun Zone.
(And by the way . . . it’s not too late to share YOUR worst date experience if you want. Ha!)
🙂
