Been staring at any blank screens lately?
Well, first I’d like to congratulate you for getting THAT far! (A lot of times when we don’t know what to say, we don’t even bother opening up the blog composer, the email, the Word doc, etc.)
If you’ve been feeling the pangs of guilt from overdue communications, I’m here to help with some short ‘n’ sweet tips to awaken the creative muse and get you writing to your adoring audience once again.
- Let go of the guilt. Firstly, the more you stress about the fact that you’re NOT writing, the more stopped up the well will be. You can’t change the past. Just start fresh, right now where you are.
- Revisit Old Posts. Find any of your previously written blog posts or articles that have lists or points and expand on one of them. Example: If the topic is, “5 Must-Visit Cities in France,” write more in depth about one of them. (Remember, Paris is always a good idea!) 😉
- Curate Other People’s Content. Want to write to your audience about post-pregnancy body blues, but feeling stuck? Do some research on other sites or blogs that address the topic and find their golden nuggets that’ll help your audience. Don’t forget to quote them and cite the source, and compile your findings in a “Best of” or “Round Up” post.
- Check Your Content Topics List. That list you have of what your community most want to hear about from you? Go back to it for some inspiration. (You could even close your eyes and point to one of the topics to give yourself an added boost of structure!)
- Set a Timer for 25 Minutes and Just Write . . . Whatever. Even if you start out with, “This is stupid. I don’t know what to write,” over and over for the first ten minutes, it’ll get you going – and sometimes that’s all you really needed in the first place.
- Let it Marinate. Set an intention to write. Ask for Divine inspiration. Then go take a shower, do the dishes or go for a walk and keep yourself open for the right idea to spring to life.
- Write a Letter from the Heart. Maybe this is a perfect time to share with your community how you feel about them, why you do what you do, or even what you’re working on or experiencing that has kept you from writing until now.
And that’s how I wrote this communiqué today, lovely one. I knew I wanted to connect with you, but the ideas just weren’t coming. So I “Let it Marinate.” Et voilà! A letter to you was born.
And one that I hope you find super helpful and useful, with tips you can return to during the dry seasons.
I’d love to hear your thoughts, by the way! What are your favorite tips to prime the pump when you want to communicate with your community, but the ideas just aren’t coming? Leave a comment below and let me know – I’m always on the lookout for great tips!
With love,
Melissa xx
