I’ve got an important question for you . . .

We talk so much about the vitality of knowing who our idea client is (or ideal audience, ideal reader, etc.).

And it’s true – we DO need to understand who she is.

What she’s like. What she desires. What she struggles with – and what keeps her up at night.

BUT . . .

Today I want to invite you to answer another question:

Who is your NON-Ideal Client?

This month the members of The Inspired Actionista Society are focusing on creating all sorts of beautiful boundaries to propel their businesses forward (and have more fun and ease while doing it!) . . .

And one of the points I made during our Connection Call last week was to decide and define who their NON-Ideal Client is.

Here’s why this matters a whole heck of a lot:

Saying no to a non-ideal client means you never again have to work with someone who drains/exhausts/depresses you, fills you with dread, or kills your confidence by making you doubt your abilities.

Because non-Ideal clients don’t benefit from your results as much (if at all) which means disappointment, struggle and wasted time for the both of you, no referrals and no testimonials. (Sadface!)

When you say no to working with a non-ideal client, you can stand in your power by letting go of a desperate need to work with just anybody who’ll pay.

How do you figure out who’s a non-ideal client?

Well, if you’ve had one or more already, there’s your quick answer – ha! 😉

Otherwise, you can take the description you have of your ideal client and play the Opposites Day game with it for every aspect of her . . .

Here’s how to play:

Get a sheet of paper and divide it in half. On one side write down all the qualities of your ideal client – anything you can think of. Then on the other side, write down what’s the opposite of that quality.

Example: Want to work with women who embrace shades of grey in their lives (50 or otherwise – wink)? Then your NON-ideal client is probably an all-or-nothing, black-or-white thinker.

Come up with at least 10 qualities and a portrait of the woman with a big
“DON’T Pick Me!” sign above her head will become pretty evident.

Simple, isn’t it? But I can’t tell you how many women work with clients who are a terrible fit for their personality or program because they don’t have this clarity.

And it’s this clarity you need that will help you set a Beautiful Boundary to welcome perfect-for-you clients, while giving non-ideal clients the chance to find someone else more suited to them.

Your next step is to communicate this beforehand, which can easily be done on your website with two little sections on your Work with Me or About Me pages:

Who I Work With + Who I Don’t Work With
or
Working Together is Right if . . . + Working Together is Not Right if . . .
or
My Audience are People Who . . . + My Audience is Usually Not . . .

This allows potential clients to self-select (or self- de-select) before you even get to the Consultation/Discovery Call, and this means less time on calls that shouldn’t have happened in the first place!

Now what if you totally KNOW this stuff – you have this clarity, but you keep working with non-ideal clients anyway?

Or what if the idea of turning someone down raises some seriously anxious or fearful feelings for you?

Well, then this tells me the Beautiful Boundary that needs to be set is an internal, psycho-emotional (belief + mindset) oriented one.

If you don’t get breakthrough on it, you’ll continue to:

– Work with clients who fill you with dread
– Who knock your confidence
– Who make you doubt your abilities (or whether you even WANT to do this work anymore!)
– While slowly allowing resentment, shame and deeper fear to build in your heart.

This is NOT a fun way to be in your business!

(But then again, you’re a smart cookie, , and I know you KNOW all of this – intellectually, right?)

Do you also know, though, that no amount of list-making and ideal client research is going to help you in this case?

But I can. 🙂

I have a unique ability to guide you to identify the root psycho-emotional belief(s) that hold you captive and then bring you to a place of freedom . . .

To BE the woman whose actions CAN line up with what she knows to be right and true.

Imagine how you could potentially double or triple your fees with CONFIDENCE and NEVER work with a wrong fit client again.

Imagine how your income could EXPLODE with that kind of freedom and alignment.
